Introducing the Sustainable Australia Fund

Solar Victoria recently launched the Solar for Business Program, which will offer rebates of up to $3,500 to businesses looking to install roof mounted solar systems to their commercial property. The total rebate amount will be capped at 50% or $3,500 of the cost on any approved system. For example, if the net costs of solar are $10,000, then the rebate value applied is $3,500 (not $5,000).
What about the other 50 per cent? That’s where Sustainable Australia Fund come in. SAF are the leading provider of Environmental Upgrade Finance (EUF), which is a unique type of loan enabled by government and repaid alongside council rates.
Businesses can access finance without any capital required, and long-term loans of up to 20 years mean that repayments are often cashflow positive. There’s no risk in the term of the loan, as the loan is tied to the building and not the owner.
SAF CEO Scott Bocskay wants to make accessing Environmental Upgrade Finance as quick and easy as possible for small business to take advantage of the rebate program.
“Many small businesses don’t have quick access to cash when these programs arise. It prevents them from jumping onto the opportunity to save money and reduce their carbon emissions through renewable energy,” said Mr. Bocskay. “By providing the option of an Environmental Upgrade Agreement, businesses don’t have an impact on their cashflow, and can enjoy immediate savings from their new solar system.”
Tenants can also take advantage of the rebate and use an EUF loan with landlord permission. Tenants benefit by reducing their electricity bill and improving their cashflow, while landlords own the system the tenant is paying off and improve the value of their property.
SAF are offering pre-approvals for eligible businesses who are thinking of applying for the Solar for Business rebate. This means that businesses can be assured of having their portion of the project fee covered before applying for the rebate.
Business owners can register their expression of interest in Environmental Upgrade Finance here.
Note that eligibility requirements apply and that businesses will need to apply for Environmental Upgrade Finance and the Solar Victoria rebate separately.
